Beast of the East (Chemdog 91 x Pakistani Chitral Kush) is Chem 91 crossed to Pakistani Chitral Kush. Chem 91 is the SKVA cut, the original Chemdog '91 and the clone the whole Chem family is named after. Pakistani Chitral Kush is a pure landrace indica from the Chitral valley in northern Pakistan. Between them they cover ground neither reaches alone. These are held cuts, not recreations. CSI's entire catalogue works that way, and it is the reason their crosses are worth chasing.

Chem 91 sits on the seed side here, Pakistani Chitral Kush on the pollen side. If you have seen these two names paired the other way round, that is a different pack and not this one.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Chem 91. The SKVA cut - the original Chemdog '91 and the clone the family takes its name from. Given as one of thirteen seeds from a bag bought at a Grateful Dead show in 1991. Skunk VA was given a cut in 1995 and has held it since, which is why the line survives.
• Father: Pakistani Chitral Kush. A pure landrace indica from the Chitral valley in northern Pakistan. The Chitral valley is hashish country, and this line was selected and stabilised there through the 1990s by Cannabiogen. Its terpene profile is unusual - very high geraniol and alpha-humulene, with terpinolene, beta-caryophyllene and nerolidol behind them.
• Why it is worth a pack rather than a look. The two sides are far enough apart that seedlings genuinely differ. That range is the product.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The two halves stack rather than blend, which is the whole reason to run it.

• The Aroma. Pungent turned earth and diesel with pine and citrus behind it from the Chem 91 side, against a wide range of sweet, round, penetrating scents - coffee, caramel, citrus, cherry, grape and a strawberry-and-blackberry chewing-gum note from the Pakistani Chitral Kush side.
• The Taste. Fuel first, earth and pine behind it, sour to close, and it coats the mouth up front, turning to the same sweet spread, with the hash character underneath through the exhale.

Where the parents disagree

• Two different harvest dates. Sixty-three to seventy days for Chem 91, eight to nine weeks indoors; outdoors it finishes at the end of September for Pakistani Chitral Kush. Judge each plant on trichomes rather than pulling the room together.
• The smell is a negotiation. Pungent turned earth and diesel with pine and citrus behind it on one side against a wide range of sweet, round, penetrating scents - coffee, caramel, citrus, cherry, grape and a strawberry-and-blackberry chewing-gum note on the other. Neither wins outright in every seedling.
• Two frames in one pack. Chem 91 is loose and open rather than compact, moderate to heavy stretch, branches that soften under weight late. Pakistani Chitral Kush is two main phenotypes - one plain green, one that colours up hard. Both adapt well and both throw serious resin. Unusually for a pure indica it ripens properly in wet weather, where most afghanis rot. Decide which suits your room before you flip, because you get both.
• They pull differently. Growers put Chem 91 at alert and head-forward, sativa-leaning rather than heavy and Pakistani Chitral Kush at the classic hash-plant effect. Which end a plant lands on is the main variable.
