There are two very different things inside ChemD x Cherry Pie. Chem D, the most-used of the 1991 Chem phenotypes, and the one sitting behind Giesel. And Cherry Pie: Granddaddy Purple crossed to Durban Poison, roughly sixty-forty indica. Humboldt CSI work almost entirely from clones they hold themselves, so both sides of this are the real thing rather than a seed-line approximation of it.
Order matters in a cross name. In ChemD x Cherry Pie the Chem D side supplied the seed and Cherry Pie the pollen, and the reciprocal - the same two plants the other way round - is a separate breeding decision with its own results.
Genetic Lineage
- Mother: Chem D. The workhorse of the Chem family and the cut breeders reach for most. Built from another phenotype from the same 1991 seed lot. It is the Chem half of Giesel, and one of the most widely used Chem cuts in American breeding.
- Father: Cherry Pie. Granddaddy Purple crossed to Durban Poison, roughly sixty-forty indica. Its own cross is Granddaddy Purple x Durban Poison. Considered easy to grow.
- What to expect across a pack. Two distinct parents means real variation in frame, finish and nose. Select early and take cuttings off anything you would want again.
Flavor and Aroma Profile
The nose is where these two argue hardest.
- The Aroma. Chemical fuel over dark turned earth from the Chem D side, against dark stone fruit and berry over earth from the Cherry Pie side.
- The Taste. Fuel and earth, greasy and coating, finishing sour up front, turning to cherry and berry closing earthy through the exhale.
The two halves, side by side
- Timing. Cherry Pie runs eight to nine weeks, and that is the half of this cross you can actually plan around.
- Where the nose comes from. One side gives chemical fuel over dark turned earth; the other gives dark stone fruit and berry over earth. Plants landing in the middle are the keepers.
- Structure varies hard here. Open and loose rather than compact, wants support once the colas load from one parent; short and bushy at eighty to a hundred and twenty centimetres with wide lateral branching that suits low-stress training from the other. Plan the canopy for the taller outcome.
- Opposite ends. Chem D is reported as alert and head-forward rather than heavy; Cherry Pie as settling. The cross sits somewhere between and moves plant to plant.
Cultivation and Growth Traits
- Plant Structure. The two parents disagree here, so plan for range. Chem D is open and loose rather than compact, wants support once the colas load. Cherry Pie is a wide, low plant - under about one hundred and twenty centimetres - whose lateral branching takes LST well.
- Vegetative Phase and Training. Open the middle out early. Light reaching the lower sites is worth more than any late correction.
- Flowering Time. Cherry Pie runs eight to nine weeks. Start checking trichomes a week before you expect to be ready.
Effects and Experience
- The Mind. Growers describe Chem D as alert and head-forward rather than heavy.
- The Body. Cherry Pie is reported as settling, and that is the side supplying the weight here.
In the pack
Feminized seeds from Humboldt CSI. Humboldt CSI are preservationists before they are breeders - most of what they release is a clone somebody has kept alive by hand for years, put into seed so it stops depending on one grower staying in the game. That is what you are buying into here. Original Humboldt CSI stock.
