ChemD x Lemon tree puts Chem D over Lemon Tree. One is the Chem family's workhorse and the cut most breeders reach for first; the other is Lemon Skunk over Sour Diesel, selected out of a large hunt in the Santa Cruz mountains. Two very different plants, and the point of the cross is what sits between them. These are held cuts, not recreations. Order matters in a cross name. In ChemD x Lemon tree the Chem D side supplied the seed and Lemon Tree the pollen, and the reciprocal - the same two plants the other way round - is a separate breeding decision with its own results.

• Mother: Chem D. The Chem family's workhorse and the cut most breeders reach for first. Built from another phenotype from the same 1991 seed lot. It is the Chem half of Giesel, and one of the most widely used Chem cuts in American breeding.
• Father: Lemon Tree. Lemon Skunk over Sour Diesel, selected out of a large hunt in the Santa Cruz mountains. Its own cross is Lemon Skunk x Sour Diesel.
• Why these two. They are not variations on the same idea. They pull in different directions, and that spread is what makes a pack worth hunting through rather than just growing.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The nose is where these two argue hardest.

• The Aroma. Solvent and heavy earth, with nothing sweet anywhere in it from the Chem D side, against sharp lemon and citrus over a fuel base from the Lemon Tree side.
• The Taste. Fuel and earth, greasy and coating, finishing sour up front, turning to zesty and sour turning heavier and more diesel-driven through the exhale.

Where the parents disagree

• What to budget. The documented side, Lemon Tree, runs eight to ten weeks. Set the room to that and let the plants correct you.
• Two noses, one pack. Chem D contributes chemical fuel over dark turned earth. Lemon Tree contributes sharp lemon and citrus over a fuel base. Which dominates is the main thing that varies.
• Build. On the Chem D side: open and loose rather than compact, wants support once the colas load. On the Lemon Tree side: medium height, around ninety to a hundred centimetres indoors. Select early rather than trying to train your way out of it.
• They pull differently. Growers put Chem D at alert and head-forward rather than heavy and Lemon Tree at bright and uplifting rather than heavy. Which end a plant lands on is the main variable.

Cultivation and Growth Traits

• Plant Structure. The two parents disagree here, so plan for range. Chem D is a sprawler that needs propping once weight goes on the branches. Lemon Tree is medium height, around ninety to a hundred centimetres indoors.
• Vegetative Phase. Top or train before you flip rather than chasing the canopy afterwards.
• Flowering Time. Lemon Tree runs eight to ten weeks. Start checking trichomes a week before you expect to be ready.
