Take Chem 91, the SKVA cut - the original Chemdog '91 and the clone the family takes its name from, and put it over Irene Kush, also called Irene OG, a Deep South cut kept almost entirely for its terpenes. That is Chemdog #1 x Irene kush. Both parents here are cuts CSI keep in their own room. That is the whole difference between this and a seed line named after the same strains.

Order matters in a cross name. In Chemdog #1 x Irene kush the Chem 91 side supplied the seed and Irene Kush the pollen, and the reciprocal - the same two plants the other way round - is a separate breeding decision with its own results.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Chem 91. The SKVA cut, the original Chemdog '91 and the clone the whole Chem family is named after. Its own cross is one of thirteen seeds from a bag bought at a Grateful Dead show in 1991. Skunk VA was given a cut in 1995 and has held it since, which is why the line survives.
• Father: Irene Kush. Also called Irene OG, a Deep South cut kept almost entirely for its terpenes. Parentage: traced to an unknown Emerald Triangle plant crossed to Hindu Kush, and widely taken to descend from California OG Kush. CSI recommend a nutrient-rich organic soil with good micronutrient content to bring the terpenes out; it is among the hardest clones they have reversed.
• Why it is worth a pack rather than a look. The two sides are far enough apart that seedlings genuinely differ. That range is the product.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The two halves stack rather than blend, which is the whole reason to run it.

• The Aroma. Pungent turned earth and diesel with pine and citrus sitting behind from the Chem 91 side, against sour and penetrating from the Irene Kush side.
• The Taste. Greasy and mouth-coating, fuel then earth and pine, finishing sour up front, turning to earthy and piney with the sweetness carrying through and a sour diesel edge through the exhale.

Where the parents disagree

• Timing. Chem 91 runs sixty-three to seventy days, and that is the half of this cross you can actually plan around.
• Where the nose comes from. One side gives pungent turned earth and diesel with pine and citrus behind it; the other gives sweet, earthy and floral with rich earth and pine, plus a distinct diesel note that most OG cuts do not have. Plants landing in the middle are the keepers.
• Structure varies hard here. Loose and open rather than compact, moderate to heavy stretch, branches that soften under weight late from one parent; resilient with a sturdy frame rather than delicate from the other. Plan the canopy for the taller outcome.
• Opposite ends. Chem 91 is reported as alert and head-forward, sativa-leaning rather than heavy; Irene Kush as the potent, focused end of the OG family; settling. The cross sits somewhere between and moves plant to plant.

Cultivation and Growth Traits

• Plant Structure. The two parents disagree here, so plan for range. Chem 91 is open and loose rather than tight, stretching moderately to heavily, with branches that soften under weight late in flower. Irene Kush is kept for terpenes rather than for yield.
• Before the flip. Decide the shape now. These lines do not tidy themselves up once they are running.
• Flowering Time. Chem 91 runs sixty-three to seventy days. Start checking trichomes a week before you expect to be ready.

Effects and Experience

• The Mind. Growers describe Chem 91 as alert and head-forward, sativa-leaning rather than heavy.
• The Body. Irene Kush is reported as the potent, focused end of the OG family; settling, and that is the side supplying the weight here.
