There are two very different things inside Chemdog 91 x Irene Kush. Chem 91, the plant the Chem name was built on, known equally as Chem 91 and the SKVA cut. And Irene Kush: Irene OG - a sour-scented southern cut that growers keep for the nose rather than anything else. These are held cuts, not recreations. CSI's entire catalogue works that way, and it is the reason their crosses are worth chasing.

Chemdog carries a 91 because selections get numbered to stay distinguishable once they leave the room they were made in. It marks this exact mother, and it is the part of the name worth reading closely.

Written this way, Chem 91 is the mother and Irene Kush the pollen donor. Reversing a cross is not a formality; which plant carries the seed shapes what comes out of the pack.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Chem 91. The SKVA cut - the original Chemdog '91 and the clone the family takes its name from. Parentage: one of thirteen seeds from a bag bought at a Grateful Dead show in 1991. Skunk VA was given a cut in 1995 and has held it since, which is why the line survives.
• Father: Irene Kush. Also called Irene OG, a Deep South cut kept almost entirely for its terpenes. Parentage: traced to an unknown Emerald Triangle plant crossed to Hindu Kush, and widely taken to descend from California OG Kush. CSI recommend a nutrient-rich organic soil with good micronutrient content to bring the terpenes out; it is among the hardest clones they have reversed.
• The point of the pairing. Neither parent needed rescuing. Putting them together is about what sits between them, not about fixing either one.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The nose is where these two argue hardest.

• The Aroma. Heavy diesel and soil with a thin pine and citrus line at the back from the Chem 91 side, against sweet, earthy and floral with rich earth and pine, plus a distinct diesel note that most OG cuts do not have from the Irene Kush side.
• The Taste. Greasy and mouth-coating, fuel then earth and pine, finishing sour up front, turning to sour with a kush base through the exhale.

How the two sides differ

• Timing. Chem 91 runs sixty-three to seventy days, and that is the half of this cross you can actually plan around.
• Where the nose comes from. One side gives pungent turned earth and diesel with pine and citrus behind it; the other gives sweet, earthy and floral with rich earth and pine, plus a distinct diesel note that most OG cuts do not have. Plants landing in the middle are the keepers.
• Build. On the Chem 91 side: loose and open rather than compact, moderate to heavy stretch, branches that soften under weight late. On the Irene Kush side: resilient with a sturdy frame rather than delicate. Select early rather than trying to train your way out of it.
• They pull differently. Growers put Chem 91 at alert and head-forward, sativa-leaning rather than heavy and Irene Kush at the potent, focused end of the OG family; settling. Which end a plant lands on is the main variable.

Cultivation and Growth Traits

• Plant Structure. The two parents disagree here, so plan for range. Chem 91 is open and loose rather than tight, stretching moderately to heavily, with branches that soften under weight late in flower. Irene Kush is resilient with a sturdy frame rather than delicate.
• Vegetative Phase and Stretch. Shape the plant before the flip. Correcting a frame in week six is harder work than setting it in week two.
• Flowering Time. Chem 91 runs sixty-three to seventy days. Start checking trichomes a week before you expect to be ready.

Effects and Experience

• The Mind. Growers describe Chem 91 as alert and head-forward, sativa-leaning rather than heavy.
• The Body. Irene Kush is reported as the potent, focused end of the OG family; settling, and that is the side supplying the weight here.
