Take Dogshit, the Pacific Northwest cut also known as Electric Boogaloo, and for a while the best weed in Portland, and put it over Northern Lights #5, NL5 - the Northern Lights phenotype that became breeding stock for half the industry. That is Dog Shit x Northern Lites 5. Humboldt CSI work almost entirely from clones they hold themselves, so both sides of this are the real thing rather than a seed-line approximation of it.

5 identifies the Dog Shit x Northern Lites used here. Numbered cuts come out of a population that was grown and sorted, and the number rides with the plant that was kept. Two crosses that both say Dog Shit x Northern Lites are only the same cross if the number matches too.

Order matters in a cross name. In Dog Shit x Northern Lites 5 the Dogshit side supplied the seed and Northern Lights #5 the pollen, and the reciprocal - the same two plants the other way round - is a separate breeding decision with its own results.
