Take Durban Poison, a pure sativa landrace from near the port city of Durban in South Africa, and put it over Triangle Kush, the Florida clone a lot of people credit with starting the OG line, named for the Jacksonville-Miami-Tampa triangle. That is Durban Poison x Triangle Kush. Both parents here are cuts CSI keep in their own room. That is the whole difference between this and a seed line named after the same strains.

Order matters in a cross name. In Durban Poison x Triangle Kush the Durban Poison side supplied the seed and Triangle Kush the pollen, and the reciprocal - the same two plants the other way round - is a separate breeding decision with its own results.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The nose is where these two argue hardest.

• The Aroma. Sweet and earthy with a distinctive anise or liquorice note from the Durban Poison side, against restrained OG earth and pine from the Triangle Kush side.
• The Taste. Sweet earth with liquorice arriving mid-palate, clean rather than coating up front, turning to earthy pine with OG weight behind it, cleaner at the finish than at the start through the exhale.

Where the parents disagree

• What to budget. The documented side, Triangle Kush, runs eight to nine weeks, reported sixty-three to seventy-seven days with most growers near seventy. Set the room to that and let the plants correct you.
• Two noses, one pack. Durban Poison contributes sweet and earthy with a distinctive anise or liquorice note. Triangle Kush contributes classic OG earth and pine, noticeably restrained rather than loud. Which dominates is the main thing that varies.
• Build. On the Durban Poison side: exceptionally tall slender stalks with wide internodal spacing and thin, narrow-fingered fan leaves; tall elongated conical colas carrying round chunky buds under an unusually thick layer of oversized trichomes. On the Triangle Kush side: stocky and bushy at moderate indoor height, up to two metres outdoors; vegs vigorously and throws heavy foliage; takes trimming, defoliation and lollipopping well; dense bright green flower under heavy resin. Select early rather than trying to train your way out of it.
• They pull differently. Growers put Durban Poison at the clear, energetic end of the spectrum; light body and Triangle Kush at the potent, focused end of the OG family. Which end a plant lands on is the main variable.
