Forbidden Fruit x GrandDaddy Purple brings Forbidden Fruit together with Granddaddy Purple. The first is Cherry Pie crossed to Tangie - dark cherry against bright citrus; the second, the other California purple benchmark. Two lines that were never going to produce a quiet plant. CSI breed off held clones rather than off seed stock, which is why the parents named on the pack are the actual plants and not their descendants.

Forbidden Fruit sits on the seed side here, Granddaddy Purple on the pollen side. If you have seen these two names paired the other way round, that is a different pack and not this one.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Forbidden Fruit. The Cherry Pie and Tangie cross that is all about the fruit. Parentage: Cherry Pie x Tangie. Rated an easy grow that does not need constant attention.
• Father: Granddaddy Purple. The other California purple benchmark. Its own cross is contested - its breeder gives Mendo Purps, Skunk and Afghan, while many sources give Purple Urkle x Big Bud. The lineage argument is the interesting part: the breeder's own account gives Mendo Purps, Skunk and Afghan, while most third-party listings give Purple Urkle crossed to Big Bud. Those are different plants and no source reconciles them.
• The point of the pairing. Neither parent needed rescuing. Putting them together is about what sits between them, not about fixing either one.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The two halves stack rather than blend, which is the whole reason to run it.

• The Aroma. Tropical citrus over dark cherry from the Forbidden Fruit side, against sweet, fruity and floral over an earthy base from the Granddaddy Purple side.
• The Taste. Cherry and passionfruit with citrus over the top up front, turning to berry sweetness over earth through the exhale.

How the two sides differ

• Timing splits the pack. One parent wants nine to ten weeks indoors, the other around eight weeks. Expect the fast plants down well before the slow ones are ready.
• Where the nose comes from. One side gives dark cherry and bright orange citrus; the other gives sweet, fruity and floral over an earthy base. Plants landing in the middle are the keepers.
• Build. On the Forbidden Fruit side: compact at eighty to a hundred and twenty centimetres indoors. On the Granddaddy Purple side: indica-built, heavy colour. Select early rather than trying to train your way out of it.
