Headband / La Kush x Irene Kush brings Headband / La Kush together with Irene Kush. The first is La Kush, which spent years circulating in Los Angeles as Headband; the second, also called Irene OG - a sour-scented hybrid out of the American Deep South. Two lines that were never going to produce a quiet plant. These are held cuts, not recreations. CSI's entire catalogue works that way, and it is the reason their crosses are worth chasing.

Order matters in a cross name. In Headband / La Kush x Irene Kush the Headband / La Kush side supplied the seed and Irene Kush the pollen, and the reciprocal - the same two plants the other way round - is a separate breeding decision with its own results.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Headband / La Kush. La Kush, which spent years circulating in Los Angeles as Headband. The name is the complicated part. Headband has worked as a brand more than as a single traceable plant, and several unrelated cuts have circulated under it. This one is La Kush, and it is not Loompa's Headband, which is a separate cut also known as Underdawg OG. Headband is usually given as OG Kush crossed to Sour Diesel, but the Josh D circle's account is that the original Headband was the OG Kush cut itself, renamed by Mojave Richmond to cover a transaction he was not meant to have made. Those accounts do not agree and no source settles them.
• Father: Irene Kush. Irene OG - a sour-scented southern cut that growers keep for the nose rather than anything else. It traces back to traced to an unknown Emerald Triangle plant crossed to Hindu Kush, and widely taken to descend from California OG Kush. CSI recommend a nutrient-rich organic soil with good micronutrient content to bring the terpenes out; it is among the hardest clones they have reversed.
• What the cross is reaching for. One side brings the structure and the other brings the nose. The plants worth keeping out of a pack are the ones that hold both rather than picking a side.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The two halves stack rather than blend, which is the whole reason to run it.

• The Aroma. OG character, though growers who know it put it nearer the diesel side of the family than the pine side from the Headband / La Kush side, against classic Kush sweetness and pine with an unusual sour diesel edge running through it from the Irene Kush side.
• The Taste. Earthy and piney with the sweetness carrying through and a sour diesel edge.

Where the parents disagree

• Where the nose comes from. One side gives OG character, though growers who know it put it nearer the diesel side of the family than the pine side; the other gives sweet, earthy and floral with rich earth and pine, plus a distinct diesel note that most OG cuts do not have. Plants landing in the middle are the keepers.
• Build. On the Headband / La Kush side: OG-dominant in build and behaviour. On the Irene Kush side: resilient with a sturdy frame rather than delicate. Select early rather than trying to train your way out of it.
• They pull differently. Growers put Headband / La Kush at the OG family's weight, with a diesel edge to it and Irene Kush at the potent, focused end of the OG family; settling. Which end a plant lands on is the main variable.

Cultivation and Growth Traits

• Plant Structure. The two parents disagree here, so plan for range. Headband / La Kush is OG-dominant in build and behaviour. Irene Kush is grown for its terpene profile more than its yield.
• Veg and stretch. Set the frame while it is cheap to do. Anything you fix after the flip costs you flower sites.

Effects and Experience

• The Mind. Growers describe Headband / La Kush as the OG family's weight, with a diesel edge to it.
• The Body. Irene Kush is reported as the potent, focused end of the OG family; settling, and that is the side supplying the weight here.
