The famous story - that it was taken from a US government research programme at the University of Mississippi in the 1970s, one of a batch labelled G1 to G23 - is not supported by any documentation. The federal programme itself was real; a cultivar named G13 inside it has never been evidenced, and most accounts of cannabis history now treat that part as folklore.
