Jurassic Funk is Panama Red crossed to Artifact 1. Panama Red is the tropical Panamanian sativa that made its name in the late sixties. Artifact 1 is Artifact 1 - the Afghan backbone of Bodhi's deep-line releases. Between them they cover ground neither reaches alone. That is how Bodhi works - a proven male, run across everything worth running it across, so the father is the constant and the mother is the question.

Order matters in a cross name. In Jurassic Funk the Panama Red side supplied the seed and Artifact 1 the pollen, and the reciprocal - the same two plants the other way round - is a separate breeding decision with its own results.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Panama Red. The tropical Panamanian sativa that made its name in the late sixties. Its own cross is a Panamanian landrace. For a stretch of the late sixties and seventies it was simply what the best weed meant, and that reputation is the only reason it survived to be preserved at all. It is worth being honest about what growing it involves: this is an equatorial plant that has never been bred for a tent. It wants the long finish, it stretches, and it will not behave like a modern hybrid. What it gives back is an effect the modern catalogue does not really make any more.
• Father: Artifact 1. An Afghan line Bodhi use across their deep-line work. It turns up right through the Deep Line Alchemy releases and the Super Natural Selections - Mana is a blood mother taken to Artifact 1 Afghani, Steppenwolf puts an eighties Salinas black Afghan against it and Wookie 15, and DLA 5.3 runs an Artifact 1 Afghan F3 crossed to Mexican Chocolate over the 88g13 Hash Plant. It is preservation stock rather than a release.
• What to expect across a pack. Two distinct parents means real variation in frame, finish and nose. Select early and take cuttings off anything you would want again.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

• The Aroma. Earth and citrus, with alpha-humulene and limonene leading.
• The Taste. Citrus over an earthy base.

• What to budget. The documented side, Panama Red, runs long, as equatorial sativas are - eleven weeks at the very least, and ten to sixteen is the usual range given. Set the room to that and let the plants correct you.

Cultivation and Growth Traits

• Plant Structure. A pure or near-pure landrace sativa off the Pearl Islands and the Darien Gap, carrying the reddish colouring it is named for over vivid green flower.
• Vegetative Phase. Top or train before you flip rather than chasing the canopy afterwards.
• Flowering Time. Panama Red runs long, as equatorial sativas are - eleven weeks at the very least, and ten to sixteen is the usual range given. Start checking trichomes a week before you expect to be ready.

Effects and Experience

• The Mind. Growers describe Panama Red as cerebral, euphoric and energising, quick enough to border on psychedelic. A daytime plant.
• The Body. Reported in line with that. This is not a plant described as pulling in two directions.
