Neither is a filler parent, which is why this pairing is worth a pack rather than a look. These are held cuts, not recreations. CSI's entire catalogue works that way, and it is the reason their crosses are worth chasing.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Mendo Purps. The Northern California indica that gave the purple lines their colour. The purple lines people can name mostly run back through it. Its own origin is a story rather than a pedigree - the usual account has it grown from the bagseed of a purple Afghani kept since 1977 and not planted until 1998, and no source gives a clean lineage for it. It circulated clone-only at first; BC Bud Depot later stabilised seed of it, and it took High Times Strain of the Year in 2007. It is not a heavy yielder and was never grown for that.
• Father: Purple Urkle. A Mendocino Purps selection pulled out of the Emerald Triangle around 1990. Dense purple flower in a closed canopy is where mould starts.
• How to read it. Everything below splits into what one parent gives and what the other does. Plants that take from both are the ones to keep.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The two halves stack rather than blend, which is the whole reason to run it.

• The Aroma. Dark grape with the colour to match from the Mendo Purps side, against grape and berry with a musky, skunky floor under it from the Purple Urkle side.
• The Taste. Grape over dark berry up front, turning to grape and berry turning earthy and musky through the exhale.

• Two different harvest dates. Eight to nine weeks, with outdoor crops coming down in the middle of october for Mendo Purps, around eight weeks indoors, inside a seven to nine week window for Purple Urkle. Judge each plant on trichomes rather than pulling the room together.
• Two noses, one pack. Mendo Purps contributes fruity and grape-like with deep colouration. Purple Urkle contributes sweet grape and dark berry over earthy skunk, myrcene-dominant. Which dominates is the main thing that varies.
• Build. On the Mendo Purps side: slightly indica-dominant and not a big plant - three to four feet indoors, six to eight outdoors. It is not a beginner's plant: it wants training and trimming to yield properly. On the Purple Urkle side: compact and indica-built; deep purple colour hardest where night temperatures drop late. Select early rather than trying to train your way out of it.
• They pull differently. Growers put Mendo Purps at settled rather than racy and Purple Urkle at settled and unhurried; the heavy, physical end. Which end a plant lands on is the main variable.

Cultivation and Growth Traits

• Plant Structure. The two parents disagree here, so plan for range. Mendo Purps is small by modern standards and slightly indica-leaning; it needs stress training and a trim to give a worthwhile yield, which is why it is not recommended to first-time growers. Purple Urkle is a short, tight plant that colours hard once the nights cool off.
• Vegetative Phase and Stretch. Shape the plant before the flip. Correcting a frame in week six is harder work than setting it in week two.
• Flowering Time. The parents are not on the same clock. Mendo Purps runs eight to nine weeks, with outdoor crops coming down in the middle of October, Purple Urkle around eight weeks indoors, inside a seven to nine week window. Judge each plant on trichomes rather than pulling the room together.
