  • Mendo Purps S1 x Triangle Kush – Humboldt CSI

Mendo Purps S1 x Triangle Kush is the Mendo Purps cut selfed onto itself, so both halves of every seed come from that one plant. Mendo Purps is Mendo Purps - the source stock Purple Urkle was selected out of, and a self is the only way a clone-only cut like it has ever reached a seed packet. It carries fruity and grape-like with deep colouration. What you are buying is a look inside one plant rather than a blend of two.

Written this way, Mendo Purps is the mother and Triangle Kush the pollen donor. Reversing a cross is not a formality; which plant carries the seed shapes what comes out of the pack.

Genetic Lineage

  • Mother and Father: Mendo Purps, selfed. The Northern California indica that gave the purple lines their colour. The purple lines people can name mostly run back through it. Its own origin is a story rather than a pedigree - the usual account has it grown from the bagseed of a purple Afghani kept since 1977 and not planted until 1998, and no source gives a clean lineage for it. It circulated clone-only at first; BC Bud Depot later stabilised seed of it, and it took High Times Strain of the Year in 2007. It is not a heavy yielder and was never grown for that.
  • Parent 2: Triangle Kush, selfed. The Florida cut that sits at the root of the OG family and has fathered more of the modern index than almost anything else. Lighter on the pine and cleaner-fluid terpenes than its reputation suggests, which is why breeders pair it with louder cuts; Humboldt CSI's 5150 is their pick out of a large Triangle Kush S1 population.
  • What a reversal is for. It puts a clone-only plant into seed without introducing anything foreign. That is preservation work rather than breeding, and it is most of what Humboldt CSI actually do.
  • What a self gives you. Both halves of every seed come from that one plant, so what varies between seedlings is the clone's own hidden range rather than another line showing through.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

Two distinct smells, and a pack will give you both plus everything between.

  • The Aroma. Grape-forward and fruity, with the colour to match from the Mendo Purps side, against quiet for an OG - earth and a light pine backbone instead of anything sharp from the Triangle Kush side.
  • The Taste. Grape and dark berry up front, turning to OG-weighted pine and earth that cleans up towards the end through the exhale.

What each side brings

  • They are not on the same clock. Mendo Purps runs eight to nine weeks, with outdoor crops coming down in the middle of October; Triangle Kush runs eight to nine weeks, reported sixty-three to seventy-seven days with most growers near seventy. Across a pack that gap shows up as plants finishing days or weeks apart.
  • Where the nose comes from. One side gives fruity and grape-like with deep colouration; the other gives classic OG earth and pine, noticeably restrained rather than loud. Plants landing in the middle are the keepers.
  • Two frames in one pack. Mendo Purps is slightly indica-dominant and not a big plant - three to four feet indoors, six to eight outdoors. It is not a beginner's plant: it wants training and trimming to yield properly. Triangle Kush is stocky and bushy at moderate indoor height, up to two metres outdoors; vegs vigorously and throws heavy foliage; takes trimming, defoliation and lollipopping well; dense bright green flower under heavy resin. Decide which suits your room before you flip, because you get both.
  • They pull differently. Growers put Mendo Purps at settled rather than racy and Triangle Kush at the potent, focused end of the OG family. Which end a plant lands on is the main variable.

Cultivation and Growth Traits

  • Plant Structure. The two parents disagree here, so plan for range. Mendo Purps is a compact plant - three to four feet indoors, twice that outside - leaning slightly indica, and demanding enough that training and trimming are not optional if you want a crop. Triangle Kush is leafy and vigorous, filling a tent quickly and taking hard training in return for dense greasy flower.
  • Vegetative Phase and Stretch. Shape the plant before the flip. Correcting a frame in week six is harder work than setting it in week two.
  • Flowering Time. The parents are not on the same clock. Mendo Purps runs eight to nine weeks, with outdoor crops coming down in the middle of October, Triangle Kush eight to nine weeks, reported sixty-three to seventy-seven days with most growers near seventy. Judge each plant on trichomes rather than pulling the room together.

Effects and Experience

  • The Mind. Growers describe Mendo Purps as settled rather than racy.
  • The Body. Triangle Kush is reported as the potent, focused end of the OG family, and that is the side supplying the weight here.

In the pack

7 feminized seeds per pack. Feminized seeds from Humboldt CSI. Nearly everything CSI put out is built from cuts they hold themselves rather than from other people's seed lines, which is why their catalogue reads like a list of clones instead of a list of brands. Humboldt CSI original genetics.
