Take Mendo Purps, Mendo Purps - the source stock Purple Urkle was selected out of, and put it over Lemon Party, CSI's own lemon cut, which they identify as a Lemon Tree selection. That is Mendo Purps x Lemon Party. Both parents here are cuts CSI keep in their own room. That is the whole difference between this and a seed line named after the same strains.

Written this way, Mendo Purps is the mother and Lemon Party the pollen donor. Reversing a cross is not a formality; which plant carries the seed shapes what comes out of the pack.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Mendo Purps. The Mendocino County purple that came out of Northern California in the late nineties. The purple lines people can name mostly run back through it. Its own origin is a story rather than a pedigree - the usual account has it grown from the bagseed of a purple Afghani kept since 1977 and not planted until 1998, and no source gives a clean lineage for it. It circulated clone-only at first; BC Bud Depot later stabilised seed of it, and it took High Times Strain of the Year in 2007. It is not a heavy yielder and was never grown for that.
• Father: Lemon Party. A Lemon Tree pick CSI keep in house, and one of the loudest citrus plants anyone runs. It traces back to a cut of Lemon Tree.
• What the cross is reaching for. One side brings the structure and the other brings the nose. The plants worth keeping out of a pack are the ones that hold both rather than picking a side.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

Expect the profile to move plant to plant rather than settle.

• The Aroma. Dark grape with the colour to match from the Mendo Purps side, against sharp zesty lemon and sugary citrus, described as overpowering candied lemon and super pungent from the Lemon Party side.
• The Taste. Grape with dark berry under it up front, turning to citrus through the exhale.

Where the parents disagree

• Timing splits the pack. One parent wants eight to nine weeks, with outdoor crops coming down in the middle of October, the other around sixty-five days, reported sixty to seventy. Expect the fast plants down well before the slow ones are ready.
• The smell is a negotiation. Fruity and grape-like with deep colouration on one side against sharp zesty lemon and sugary citrus, described as overpowering candied lemon and super pungent on the other. Neither wins outright in every seedling.

Decide which suits your room before you flip, because you get both.
• They pull differently. Growers put Mendo Purps at settled rather than racy and Lemon Party at bright and lifting rather than heavy. Which end a plant lands on is the main variable.
