Mendo Purps x Purple Indica sits between Mendo Purps and Purple Indica: Mendo Purps - the source stock Purple Urkle was selected out of on one side, an heirloom of Pacific Northwest fame going back to the early-to-mid 1980s on the other. Humboldt CSI work almost entirely from clones they hold themselves, so both sides of this are the real thing rather than a seed-line approximation of it.

Mendo Purps sits on the seed side here, Purple Indica on the pollen side. If you have seen these two names paired the other way round, that is a different pack and not this one.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Mendo Purps. The Northern California indica that gave the purple lines their colour. The purple lines people can name mostly run back through it. Its own origin is a story rather than a pedigree - the usual account has it grown from the bagseed of a purple Afghani kept since 1977 and not planted until 1998, and no source gives a clean lineage for it. It circulated clone-only at first; BC Bud Depot later stabilised seed of it, and it took High Times Strain of the Year in 2007. It is not a heavy yielder and was never grown for that.
• Father: Purple Indica. An heirloom of Pacific Northwest fame going back to the early-to-mid 1980s. The purple is in the plant rather than in the weather - the leaves come in dark without needing a cold snap to bring the colour out, which is not true of most purple lines.
• Why it is worth a pack rather than a look. The two sides are far enough apart that seedlings genuinely differ. That range is the product.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The two halves stack rather than blend, which is the whole reason to run it.

• The Aroma. Fruity and grape-like with deep colouration from the Mendo Purps side, against sweet and earthy with pine and berry from the Purple Indica side.
• The Taste. Grape with dark berry under it up front, turning to floral, dark Concord grape through the exhale.

Where the parents disagree

• Timing splits the pack. One parent wants eight to nine weeks, with outdoor crops coming down in the middle of October, the other fifty-six to sixty-three days. Expect the fast plants down well before the slow ones are ready.
• Two noses, one pack. Mendo Purps contributes fruity and grape-like with deep colouration. Purple Indica contributes sweet and earthy with pine and berry. Which dominates is the main thing that varies.
• Two frames in one pack. Mendo Purps is slightly indica-dominant and not a big plant - three to four feet indoors, six to eight outdoors. It is not a beginner's plant: it wants training and trimming to yield properly. Purple Indica is indica by build, indoors or outdoors; naturally dark purple leaves rather than colour that only arrives in the cold. Decide which suits your room before you flip, because you get both.
• They pull differently. Growers put Mendo Purps at settled rather than racy and Purple Indica at settled and unhurried; physical and relaxing. Which end a plant lands on is the main variable.

Cultivation and Growth Traits

• Plant Structure. The two parents disagree here, so plan for range. Mendo Purps is small by modern standards and slightly indica-leaning; it needs stress training and a trim to give a worthwhile yield, which is why it is not recommended to first-time growers. Purple Indica is indica-framed and compact.
• Training. Worth the effort early - it is the difference between an even canopy and three colas and a lot of leaf.
• Flowering Time. The parents are not on the same clock. Mendo Purps runs eight to nine weeks, with outdoor crops coming down in the middle of October, Purple Indica fifty-six to sixty-three days. Judge each plant on trichomes rather than pulling the room together.
