Take Triangle Kush, the Florida clone often credited with giving OG Kush its origin, named for the triangle of Jacksonville, Miami and Tampa, and put it over Purple Urkle, a select phenotype of Mendocino Purps out of the Emerald Triangle around the turn of the 1990s. That is Old Family Purple (Triangle Kush x Purple Urkle). These are held cuts, not recreations. CSI's entire catalogue works that way, and it is the reason their crosses are worth chasing.

Triangle Kush sits on the seed side here, Purple Urkle on the pollen side. If you have seen these two names paired the other way round, that is a different pack and not this one.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Triangle Kush. The Florida cut that sits at the root of the OG family and has fathered more of the modern index than almost anything else. Lighter on the pine and cleaner-fluid terpenes than its reputation suggests, which is why breeders pair it with louder cuts; Humboldt CSI's 5150 is their pick out of a large Triangle Kush S1 population.
• Father: Purple Urkle. The Emerald Triangle purple keeper that most of California's colour reputation rests on. Dense purple flower in a closed canopy is where mould starts.
• The point of the pairing. Neither parent needed rescuing. Putting them together is about what sits between them, not about fixing either one.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The nose is where these two argue hardest.

• The Aroma. Restrained OG earth and pine rather than the loud cleaner-fluid nose the name implies from the Triangle Kush side, against grape and berry with a musky, skunky floor under it from the Purple Urkle side.
• The Taste. OG-weighted pine and earth that cleans up towards the end up front, turning to grape and berry turning earthy and musky through the exhale.

The two halves, side by side

• They are not on the same clock. Triangle Kush runs eight to nine weeks, reported sixty-three to seventy-seven days with most growers near seventy; Purple Urkle runs around eight weeks indoors, inside a seven to nine week window. Across a pack that gap shows up as plants finishing days or weeks apart.
• The smell is a negotiation. Classic og earth and pine, noticeably restrained rather than loud on one side against sweet grape and dark berry over earthy skunk, myrcene-dominant on the other. Neither wins outright in every seedling.
• Two frames in one pack. Triangle Kush is stocky and bushy at moderate indoor height, up to two metres outdoors; vegs vigorously and throws heavy foliage; takes trimming, defoliation and lollipopping well; dense bright green flower under heavy resin.
