There are two very different things inside Pure OG Kush x Cali Orange. Pure OG Kush, the first OG Kush clone CSI ever held, most likely an early OG Kush S1 from the late 1990s or the start of the 2000s. And California Orange, the AE77 cut of a California heirloom that has been inbred since the early eighties. CSI breed off held clones rather than off seed stock, which is why the parents named on the pack are the actual plants and not their descendants.

Pure OG Kush sits on the seed side here, California Orange on the pollen side. If you have seen these two names paired the other way round, that is a different pack and not this one.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Pure OG Kush. The first OG Kush clone CSI ever held, most likely an early OG Kush S1 from the late 1990s or the start of the 2000s. CSI put its willingness to hybridize down to that S1 background.
• Father: California Orange. A 1980s heirloom off 1970s California stock, inbred ever since, and CSI run the AE77 cut of it. It traces back to a 50/50 hybrid crossed in the 1980s.
• What to expect across a pack. Two distinct parents means real variation in frame, finish and nose. Select early and take cuttings off anything you would want again.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The two halves stack rather than blend, which is the whole reason to run it.

• The Aroma. The classic OG signature - earth and pine with a fuel edge from the Pure OG Kush side, against ripe orange and mandarin over an earthy base - sweet, penetrating citrus from the California Orange side.
• The Taste. Earthy and piney with OG weight, finishing sharper than it starts up front, turning to bright citrus zest with a sweet-earth finish through the exhale.

Where the parents disagree

• What to budget. The documented side, California Orange, runs around nine weeks. Set the room to that and let the plants correct you.
• Where the nose comes from. One side gives the classic OG signature - earth and pine with a fuel edge; the other gives ripe orange and mandarin over an earthy base - sweet, penetrating citrus. Plants landing in the middle are the keepers.
• Two frames in one pack. Pure OG Kush is OG-type plants open out rather than fill in. California Orange is compact and very resinous with a good flower-to-leaf ratio; resilient to common pests and disease; easy to grow and among the easiest plants there is to clone. Decide which suits your room before you flip, because you get both.
• Opposite ends. Pure OG Kush is reported as potent and focused; settling and physical; California Orange as bright and even rather than heavy. The cross sits somewhere between and moves plant to plant.
