Sour O's crosses East Coast fuel into a Pacific Northwest legend. Obama Kush is not a strain somebody bought, it is a plant Red Beard found in 2007, growing out a handful of Humboldt CSI's Mendocino Purple Kush seeds, and it became a favourite across the whole Northwest afterwards. Sour Diesel over the top of that is fuel meeting purple Kush.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Sour Diesel. The East Coast benchmark for aggressive chemical fuel, and the parent that sets the frame and the clock here. Sour Diesel most likely carries Chem 91 itself, the usual account has it made in 1990s New York from Chemdog 91 and a Super Skunk. It brings a tall lanky build, wide internodal spacing, greasy resin and a nose that reads as pure solvent.
• Father: Obama Kush. An award-winning selection with a properly documented history. Humboldt CSI made Mendocino Purple Kush in 2006 by reversing the original Bubba Kush clone onto the Mendocino Purple clone. In 2007 Red Beard of Tigard Farms sprouted a handful of those seeds and pulled two keepers out of them: Obama Kush and George W. Kush. The Obama cut spread quickly through the Pacific Northwest and has stayed there.
• What that means underneath. Obama Kush brings Bubba Kush and Mendocino Purple with it, so there is coffee-and-cocoa hash on one side of its parentage and California purple on the other, both sitting under the Sour Diesel.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

• The Aroma. Sharp chemical fuel and greasy resin from the Sour side, over the roasted coffee, cocoa and hash that Bubba puts into Obama Kush, with the Mendocino Purple showing as grape underneath all of it.
• The Taste. Chemical and mouth-coating up front, turning to spiced earth and dark roast through the middle, finishing heavier than it started.

Cultivation and Growth Traits

• Plant Structure. This is where the pack will split. Sour Diesel is tall and lanky with wide internodal spacing; the Bubba behind Obama Kush is short, stocky and broad-leafed. Expect plants at both ends and pick the frame that suits your room.
• Vegetative Phase and Stretch. Sour Diesel stretches hard after the flip while Bubba moves modestly at around 1.2 to 1.5 times. Set the light for the taller expressions and train the leggy ones early.
• Bud Appearance. Thick calyces and heavy resin where the Kush side leads, running forest green to plum with purple arriving late; longer and more open where the Sour side does.
• Flowering Time. The parents are weeks apart: Obama Kush at eight to ten weeks and Sour Diesel at ten to eleven, with faster plants nearer sixty-seven days. Watch the individual plant rather than the calendar.
• Airflow. Dense Kush colas hold moisture. Keep the canopy open through the back half of bloom.

Effects and Experience

• The Mind. Growers describe Sour Diesel as head-forward and energetic, and it is the more talked-about half of this cross.
• The Body. The Bubba behind Obama Kush is the settling end, and on the shorter expressions it is the side that shows up.
