There are two very different things inside Diesel Poison Clone (Durban Poison x Chemdog 91 Bx3). Durban Poison, a pure sativa landrace from near the port city of Durban in South Africa. And Chemdog Bx3, three generations of Chem 91 worked back into itself. A line built on preservation rather than novelty, which is why the same clone keeps appearing on one side of the cross.

91 identifies the Durban Poison x Chemdog used here. Numbered cuts come out of a population that was grown and sorted, and the number rides with the plant that was kept. Two crosses that both say Durban Poison x Chemdog are only the same cross if the number matches too.

Written this way, Durban Poison is the mother and Chemdog Bx3 the pollen donor. Reversing a cross is not a formality; which plant carries the seed shapes what comes out of the pack.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Durban Poison. A pure sativa landrace from near the port city of Durban in South Africa. Its own cross is a landrace, not a cross. Used as breeding stock worldwide for decades, most famously as one half of Cherry Pie.
• Father: Chemdog Bx3. The Chemdog Bx3 stud, Skunk VA's own. Given as a backcross of Chemdog 91 - the cut Skunk VA has held since 1995 - worked back into itself three times. Backcrossing is what you do when you want more of one parent rather than a blend.
• Why these two. They are not variations on the same idea. They pull in different directions, and that spread is what makes a pack worth hunting through rather than just growing.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The two halves stack rather than blend, which is the whole reason to run it.

• The Aroma. Sweet and earthy with a distinctive anise or liquorice note from the Durban Poison side, against diesel and sour earth, concentrated rather than diluted by the backcrossing from the Chemdog Bx3 side.
• The Taste. Sweet earth with liquorice arriving mid-palate, clean rather than coating up front, turning to greasy and mouth-coating, fuel then earth, sour at the finish through the exhale.

• Where the nose comes from. One side gives sweet and earthy with a distinctive anise or liquorice note; the other gives the Chem 91 nose concentrated rather than diluted: turned earth and diesel with pine and citrus behind it. Plants landing in the middle are the keepers.

• They pull differently. Growers put Durban Poison at the clear, energetic end of the spectrum; light body and Chemdog Bx3 at alert and head-forward rather than sedating, as the Chem 91 line runs. Which end a plant lands on is the main variable.

• Plant Structure. The two parents disagree here, so plan for range. Durban Poison is exceptionally tall slender stalks with wide internodal spacing and thin, narrow-fingered fan leaves; tall elongated conical colas carrying round chunky buds under an unusually thick layer of oversized trichomes. Chemdog Bx3 is Chem-family structure, open and stretchy, and it wants support late.
• Vegetative Phase and Training. Open the middle out early. Light reaching the lower sites is worth more than any late correction.
