Take Dogshit, the Pacific Northwest cut also known as Electric Boogaloo, and for a while the best weed in Portland, and put it over Panama Red, the tropical Panamanian sativa that made its name in the late sixties. That is Dog Shit x Panama Red. Both parents here are cuts CSI keep in their own room. That is the whole difference between this and a seed line named after the same strains.

Written this way, Dogshit is the mother and Panama Red the pollen donor. Reversing a cross is not a formality; which plant carries the seed shapes what comes out of the pack.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Dogshit. The Pacific Northwest cut also known as Electric Boogaloo, and for a while the best weed in Portland. Its own cross is contested - one account puts it in Minneapolis in the early 1990s as Electric Boogaloo before it moved west and was renamed; a persistent rumour gives it as an old Colombian and Afghani hybrid. It rose in Oregon and Washington after 1998 and is still passed as a clone; CSI's The Good Shit is Dogshit over Chemdog 91.
• Father: Panama Red. The tropical Panamanian sativa that made its name in the late sixties. Its own cross is a Panamanian landrace. For a stretch of the late sixties and seventies it was simply what the best weed meant, and that reputation is the only reason it survived to be preserved at all. It is worth being honest about what growing it involves: this is an equatorial plant that has never been bred for a tent. It wants the long finish, it stretches, and it will not behave like a modern hybrid. What it gives back is an effect the modern catalogue does not really make any more.
• The point of the pairing. Neither parent needed rescuing. Putting them together is about what sits between them, not about fixing either one.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

Neither parent is subtle, and the cross has nowhere quiet to go.

• The Aroma. The electric haze character the name is known for from the Dogshit side, against earth and citrus, with alpha-humulene and limonene leading from the Panama Red side.
• The Taste. Sativa-forward and sharp up front, turning to citrus over an earthy base through the exhale.

Where the parents disagree

• Timing. Panama Red runs long, as equatorial sativas are - eleven weeks at the very least, and ten to sixteen is the usual range given, and that is the half of this cross you can actually plan around.
• Two noses, one pack. Dogshit contributes the electric haze character the name is known for. Panama Red contributes earth and citrus, with alpha-humulene and limonene leading. Which dominates is the main thing that varies.
• Build. On the Dogshit side: mostly sativa. On the Panama Red side: a pure or near-pure landrace sativa off the Pearl Islands and the Darien Gap, carrying the reddish colouring it is named for over vivid green flower. Select early rather than trying to train your way out of it.
• They pull differently. Growers put Dogshit at sativa-leaning and Panama Red at cerebral, euphoric and energising, quick enough to border on psychedelic. A daytime plant. Which end a plant lands on is the main variable.

Cultivation and Growth Traits

• Plant Structure. The two parents disagree here, so plan for range. Dogshit is mostly sativa. Panama Red is a pure or near-pure landrace sativa off the Pearl Islands and the Darien Gap, carrying the reddish colouring it is named for over vivid green flower.
• Vegetative Phase and Training. Open the middle out early. Light reaching the lower sites is worth more than any late correction.
• Flowering Time. Panama Red runs long, as equatorial sativas are - eleven weeks at the very least, and ten to sixteen is the usual range given. Start checking trichomes a week before you expect to be ready.

Effects and Experience

• The Mind. Growers describe Dogshit as sativa-leaning.
• The Body. Panama Red is reported as cerebral, euphoric and energising, quick enough to border on psychedelic. A daytime plant, and that is the side supplying the weight here.
