Take Indiana Bubblegum, the original Indiana bubblegum plant, and the standard every later candy strain is measured against, and put it over Bubba Kush, the West Coast indica benchmark, a Los Angeles clone from the mid-1990s named after the grower who kept it. Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Indiana Bubblegum. A genuine 1990s survivor out of Indiana and still the reference for what sweet is supposed to smell like. Wants a moderate level of experience.
• Father: Bubba Kush. The West Coast indica benchmark, a Los Angeles clone from the mid-1990s named after the grower who kept it. Dense colas need airflow; the Pre-98 cut is the shorter, broader-leafed, heavier expression.
• The point of the pairing. Neither parent needed rescuing. Putting them together is about what sits between them, not about fixing either one.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The two halves stack rather than blend, which is the whole reason to run it.

• The Aroma. Pink bubblegum, cotton candy and strawberry taffy over vanilla cream with a faint hash note from the Indiana Bubblegum side, against dark cocoa and roasted coffee with old hash and wood underneath from the Bubba Kush side.
• The Taste. Cotton candy and ripe berry with a creamy finish up front, turning to spice and earth up front, closing thick and hashy through the exhale.

Where the parents disagree

• What to budget. The documented side, Indiana Bubblegum, runs seven to eight weeks, some reporting sixty to sixty-five days. Set the room to that and let the plants correct you.
• Two noses, one pack. Indiana Bubblegum contributes pink bubblegum first, then cotton candy, strawberry taffy and vanilla cream, with ripe berry and a faint hash note. Bubba Kush contributes roasted coffee, dark cocoa and old-school hash with a woody edge. Which dominates is the main thing that varies.
• Build. On the Indiana Bubblegum side: medium-tall on a slender, sparse frame; roughly doubles in height after the flip; heavy trichome coverage on dense buds. On the Bubba Kush side: short to medium and stocky, broad deep-green leaves, tight internodes, modest 1.2 to 1.5 times stretch; golf-ball to cola-sized buds with thick calyces and heavy resin, forest green through to plum. Select early rather than trying to train your way out of it.
• They pull differently. Growers put Indiana Bubblegum at softer and more relaxed and Bubba Kush at gentle and unhurried, warm and loosening, body-forward. Which end a plant lands on is the main variable.

Cultivation and Growth Traits

Indiana Bubblegum is medium-tall on a slender, sparse frame; roughly doubles in height after the flip; heavy trichome coverage on dense buds. Bubba Kush is short to medium, thickset, with broad deep-green leaves and tight internodes; it stretches only about half again in flower and stacks golf-ball to cola-sized buds with thick calyces, heavy resin and colour running forest green into plum.
• Vegetative Phase and Stretch. Shape the plant before the flip. Correcting a frame in week six is harder work than setting it in week two.
• Flowering Time. Indiana Bubblegum runs seven to eight weeks, some reporting sixty to sixty-five days. Start checking trichomes a week before you expect to be ready.
