There are two very different things inside Chasca (Super Silver Haze Bx2 x Chemdog 91 Bx3). Panama Red, the tropical Panamanian sativa that made its name in the late sixties. And Chemdog Bx3, three generations of Chem 91 worked back into itself. Skunk VA has held the Chem 91 cut since 1995, so what sits behind these crosses is the clone rather than a line bred to resemble it.

91 identifies the x Chemdog used here. Numbered cuts come out of a population that was grown and sorted, and the number rides with the plant that was kept. Two crosses that both say x Chemdog are only the same cross if the number matches too.

Written this way, Panama Red is the mother and Chemdog Bx3 the pollen donor. Reversing a cross is not a formality; which plant carries the seed shapes what comes out of the pack.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Panama Red. The tropical Panamanian sativa that made its name in the late sixties. Its own cross is a Panamanian landrace. For a stretch of the late sixties and seventies it was simply what the best weed meant, and that reputation is the only reason it survived to be preserved at all. It is worth being honest about what growing it involves: this is an equatorial plant that has never been bred for a tent. It wants the long finish, it stretches, and it will not behave like a modern hybrid. What it gives back is an effect the modern catalogue does not really make any more.
• Father: Chemdog Bx3. The father behind most of the Lucky Dog catalogue. Its own cross is a backcross of Chemdog 91 - the cut Skunk VA has held since 1995 - worked back into itself three times. Backcrossing is what you do when you want more of one parent rather than a blend.
• Why these two. They are not variations on the same idea. They pull in different directions, and that spread is what makes a pack worth hunting through rather than just growing.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

The nose is where these two argue hardest.

• The Aroma. Earth and citrus, with alpha-humulene and limonene leading from the Panama Red side, against the Chem 91 nose concentrated rather than diluted: turned earth and diesel with pine and citrus behind it from the Chemdog Bx3 side.
• The Taste. Citrus over an earthy base up front, turning to greasy and mouth-coating, fuel then earth, sour at the finish through the exhale.

• What to budget. The documented side, Panama Red, runs long, as equatorial sativas are - eleven weeks at the very least, and ten to sixteen is the usual range given. Set the room to that and let the plants correct you.
