Patient Zero (Purple Urkle x Pakistani Purple Kush) sits between Purple Urkle and Purple Hindu Kush: a select phenotype of Mendocino Purps out of the Emerald Triangle around the turn of the 1990s on one side, a purple Hindu Kush selection, indica to the core on the other. CSI breed off held clones rather than off seed stock, which is why the parents named on the pack are the actual plants and not their descendants.

Order matters in a cross name. In Patient Zero (Purple Urkle x Pakistani Purple Kush) the Purple Urkle side supplied the seed and Purple Hindu Kush the pollen, and the reciprocal - the same two plants the other way round - is a separate breeding decision with its own results.

Genetic Lineage

• Mother: Purple Urkle. A Mendocino Purps selection pulled out of the Emerald Triangle around 1990. Dense purple flower in a closed canopy is where mould starts.
• Father: Purple Hindu Kush. A purple Hindu Kush selection, indica to the core. Built from Hindu Kush x Purple Afghani.
• The point of the pairing. Neither parent needed rescuing. Putting them together is about what sits between them, not about fixing either one.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

Two distinct smells, and a pack will give you both plus everything between.

• The Aroma. Grape and berry with a musky, skunky floor under it from the Purple Urkle side, against earthy, piney and spicy with strong grape and berry over a pungent base from the Purple Hindu Kush side.
• The Taste. Dark fruit up front, musk and earth behind it up front, turning to grape and berry with earth and spice behind it through the exhale.

The two halves, side by side

• Two different harvest dates. Around eight weeks indoors, inside a seven to nine week window for Purple Urkle, seven to eight weeks for Purple Hindu Kush. Judge each plant on trichomes rather than pulling the room together.
• Two noses, one pack. Purple Urkle contributes sweet grape and dark berry over earthy skunk, myrcene-dominant. Purple Hindu Kush contributes earthy, piney and spicy with strong grape and berry over a pungent base. Which dominates is the main thing that varies.
• Two frames in one pack. Purple Urkle is compact and indica-built; deep purple colour hardest where night temperatures drop late. Purple Hindu Kush is dense resinous buds in deep purple with bright orange pistils under a thick trichome coat; colour develops as temperatures drop in flower. Decide which suits your room before you flip, because you get both.
• Opposite ends. Purple Urkle is reported as settled and unhurried; the heavy, physical end; Purple Hindu Kush as indica and settling. The cross sits somewhere between and moves plant to plant.

Cultivation and Growth Traits

• Plant Structure. The two parents disagree here, so plan for range. Purple Urkle is a short, tight plant that colours hard once the nights cool off. Purple Hindu Kush is short and broad in the mountain-indica shape, colouring hard.
• Vegetative Phase and Stretch. Shape the plant before the flip. Correcting a frame in week six is harder work than setting it in week two.
• Flowering Time. The parents are not on the same clock. Purple Urkle runs around eight weeks indoors, inside a seven to nine week window, Purple Hindu Kush seven to eight weeks. Judge each plant on trichomes rather than pulling the room together.
